OPUS Awards Cuts Carbon Footprint
In keeping with the overriding theme of sustainability which now underpins all construction projects, the entry process for this year’s Bank of Ireland OPUS Architecture & Construction Awards has been simplified to greatly reduce its carbon footprint. The Official Entry Form can now be downloaded, along with the submission requirements by clicking here.

OPUS Aims & Objectives
The Bank of Ireland OPUS Architecture & Construction Awards were devised by the organisers of Plan Expo (Expo Events) to reflect the reinforce the symbiotic relationship between design and construction. They have continuously evolved since the inaugural Awards in 2000, all the time striving to strengthen the inclusiveness of the key disciplines within the construction process. This is also reflected in the Panel of Assessors which includes architects, CIF nominees and a structural engineer.

Judging Criteria & Site Visits
The Awards concept is based on a holistic approach devised to promote architectural design and build quality that rises above pure utility to combine all that is practical and necessary within a building that is meaningful, humane and beautiful. It also acknowledges excellence in the construction process that combines management and teamwork with workmanship, ingenuity, creativity and performance against programme. The site visit to the selected finalists is a critical element in determining how well this objective has been achieved.

Intent To Enter
You must email your “Intent to Enter” the Awards — stating how many projects and what categories — to louise@pressline.ie, prior to making your submission(s).

Bank of Ireland Corporate Banking
Finance is a critical part of the construction process. To that end Bank of Ireland Corporate Banking is the main sponsor of the Awards. Its support is invaluable and its continued involvement ensures still greater publicity for the Awards’ winners.

Lifetime Achievement & Art in Architecture Awards
In addition to the established categories, two new Awards were introduced last year — Lifetime Achievement Award and Art in Architecture.

Lifetime Achievement Award
A Lifetime Achievement Award will be awarded to an individual who has sustained a high level of excellence over an extended period of time, someone who has displayed insight as well as intellect; and sensitivity as well as toughness in achieving their architecture or construction goals. The Assessor’s are seeking the watermark of design and construction excellence rather than stylistic preferences or financial standing.
The Lifetime Achievement Award nominations may be made by members of the public, the RIAI, CIF and the Assessor’s. Please indicate your nomination for this Award on the Official Entry Form.

Art in Architecture
Architects and artists have collaborated to create buildings and spaces that celebrate the visual arts for centuries. In recent years in particular they have worked together to incorporate artwork as part of the design process within buildings, and the external spaces surrounding buildings.

To celebrate successful installations — and encourage collaboration at the earliest possible opportunity in the design process — the Art in Architecture category was introduced. Elements for consideration include sculpture, paintings, ceramic, glass, fabric, audio-visual or sonic installations developed as part of the design process and presented as an integrated design solution.

Bank of Ireland OPUS Architecture & Construction Awards Make the Headlines

The value of all-industry recognition by the leading peers within your profession cannot be overstated. This is especially true of the architectural and construction sector where peer recognition is the ultimate accolade. Successful involvement with the Bank of Ireland OPUS Awards brings with it prestige, associated status and commercial benefits.

Hence also the importance of communicating that information to professionals within the construction sector, the business community, and the public at large. That is why details of the winning and commended Bank of Ireland OPUS Awards recipients, and their projects, are published in the architectural press, the construction trade press, local and national press media, and radio and television.

Dedicated industry exposure to an interested audience of construction professionals is assured on the dedicated Bank of Ireland Opus Awards’ stand at Plan Expo 2008 which will be held, as usual, in Simmonscourt, RDS. Dates: 4/5/6 November 2008.
